Went to a midnight show.

I'll preface this with the fact that I loved the Nolan Batman movies, and was really let down by Star Trek and IM3 this summer. They just felt been there done that...but this..

I loved it.

I'm seeing a crazy divide in reviews and discussion, and I really think this may be a generational thing, or...maybe a nostalgia thing? The movie is uncompromisingly modern and barely even attempts to do what has come before. Whether thats the old Movies, the cartoons, or TV shows.

I really think if the Donner Superman movies are your thing, then maybe even avoid this. I grew up with them, but they never were my thing.

A lot has been made about the ending being TOO actiony, and I can't fathom that criticism. Its just so huge and really, I've never seen stuff this big before.

I'll be interested in what you all thought. The acting, and the designs, and the deep mythology of Krypton was all just so good. I loved the new dynamic with Lois. And while there weren't a lot of funny bits, they they did show up it was great and a gave you a breather. The religious stuff is there and I think handled really well...it's kind've unavoidable.

I think Superman is this gigantic litmus test. Fans and non fans alike instantly know how he should act and what he should do. This movie really puts that to the test.

I'm still fairly new to comics and I've been reading mostly DC stuff, plus a little bit of Marvel. I'd kind of like to branch out though. I've always been a big fan of fantasy stuff, especially if it involves magic, but I'm open to lots of different genres. I've been reading a lot of super-hero stuff though, so I'd prefer to stay away from that and try something a little different. I'm tired of the same old characters. What would you guys recommend for me?

The art depicts a clash between current Scarlet Spider Kaine and what appears to be Peter Parker's other clone, Reilly, in a sleeveless hoody version of the classic Scarlet Spider torn sweatshirt outfit. Sharp-eyed fans have been quick to point out that it also appears to depict the returning character shooting impact webbing, a specialized derivation of Spider-Man's classic webbing developed and used by Reilly.
comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=46140

New Line Revives Its "Y: The Last Man" Film

(darkhorizons.com) After being seemingly left for dead, the long-in-development film adaptation of Brian K. Vaughn's acclaimed comic series "Y: The Last Man" has suddenly risen from the ashes.

Vulture reports that New Line Cinema has put the project back in action and on the fast track following a very positive response to the latest version of the script from former "Jericho" writers Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia.

In fact the studio has reportedly already begun the process of meeting with directorial candidates to hire for the project. The writing duo came onboard back in March and started afresh, chucking out the previous draft by Carl Ellsworth.

Both DJ Caruso ("Disturbia") and Louis Leterrier ("The Incredible Hulk") were previously attached as directors while Shia LaBeouf and Alicia Keys were linked to star. None of them are expected to return.

The comic follows young amateur escape artist Yorick Brown and his pet monkey Ampersand, the last two men on Earth. Something simultaneously kills every mammal on Earth possessing a Y chromosome - including embryos, fertilized eggs, and even sperm.

Society is plunged into chaos as infrastructures collapse and the surviving women everywhere try to cope with the loss of the men. Yorick goes on a mission to find his girlfriend Beth, who was on vacation in Australia.

Hi there-

I am a long time Marvel Comics fan. I started reading them in 1982 when I was ten. Over the years, I built an impressive collection (if I do say so myself) that I was very proud of. Until...

In 2003 we had a house fire. Thankfully, we didn't loose our home, but my collection was destroyed. And to make things even worse, my home insurance wasn't going to cover the cost to replace my collection. I was so heartbroken, and frustrated, that I gave up comics all together at that time. I went cold turkey and just walked away from the hobby.

Well, cut to today, a decade later. My son is now 10 years old, and I want to pass along to him my love of Marvel Comics. With the use of trade paperback collections, I've been able to give him "the basics" of the Marvel Universe, and he is loving it!

Seeing him enjoy Marvel has made me want to jump back into the hobby. But where to start? A lot has happened in the last ten years! Thankfully, after lurking and reading many great sites and forums (including this one!), I have been able to bring myself up to speed with the major storylines of the last ten years.

Okay, now onto my plea for help...

I have that nerdy quality of being a "complete-ist". Reading the major storylines has been great, but I want to read it all!

I have been searching for a resource that lists all Marvel Comics in the chronological order that they were released. For example, something the list what comics where published in January of 2003, then lists what was release in February of 2003, then March, and so on and so on.

I've been searching for something like this, but I am coming up empty handed. Do you know of a place online that would have such a list? Any help you can provide that points me in the right direction is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read my podt and for any help you may be able to provide.

Excelsior!
~The ReCollectr

If your trip is not part of some time loop, the moment you arrive in the past you create an alternate universe (or you arrive in an alternate past--Marvel hasn't always been consistent on that) that has NO effect on your present. The only exceptions we have seen is insanely powerful beings and those have either been retconned (Age of Apocalypse reality became Earth-295) or forgotten (the whole TimeQuake saga in What #336-35)

I'm sure some of you check Comixology on a regular basis to see what's on sale. Usually they have Marvel Mondays for 99¢ and then a few more at the end of the week, and holidays are also a great time to find some deals. Anyway, I was going to post about this weeks sale, but then I thought, why not start a single thread that can be updated regularly so we don't have to clog the forum with a bunch of threads? I won't be able to always update this so I'm counting on the rest of you to pick up the slack.

Alternatively, I'm hoping that Marvel and DC see how popular these sales are and will begin to think about reducing the cost of our digital books.

So, this isn't exactly brain surgery, but it's fun if you love looking at comic covers. I've gotten so much enjoyment out of this, I'm just throwing it out there, so maybe others can enjoy it, too.

For the last year or so, I've had my computer set up so that every day it displays a random cover from 1972 as my desktop wallpaper. (1972 was one of my core "comic-reading-as-a-little-kid" years). You could also do this with, say, all the covers by a certain artist, or all the covers of a certain title, etc. -- whatever floats your boat.

I used a free wallpaper program called "Wallpaper Master" (which can randomly display a cover from a folder with no repeats), an advanced search on Comics.org, and an hour or so to save all those covers into a folder. I've just started to hit repeats, so I'm off in search of "1973" soon.

Being greeted by a new (old) cover every day was WAY more fun then I expected, especially discovering covers that I either never saw as a kid or didn't remember. Here's three that I didn't remember at all...

Enjoy!

KULL cover by John Severin
MARVEL TRIPLE ACTION (reprint inside, but original cover) by JIM STARLIN
MARVEL'S GREATEST COMICS (reprint inside, but original cover) by JOHN BUSCEMA
